The Gentle Intelligence of Skin
Your wounds do not heal when you scratch them, watch them intently, wish they weren’t there, make yourself upset because they are not healing faster, or from beating yourself up about the event that led to it, about a choice you made, the speed with which you heal.
Your wounds heal from rest and from putting your mind on something else.
Your skin does it all the time. How can your skin, and its very routined ability to restore itself, teach you something about overcoming injuries that no one sees?
Give it a chance. You might discover that dwelling on a hurt is a lot less effective than withdrawing from it, withdrawing from it altogether, allowing yourself to rest, and finding a new focus.
