Earth Send On 17 May 2024
Dear friends and readers, dear co-meditators, co-creators and fellow reiki practitioners,
it is a delightful, dynamic and booming season to be familiarizing ourselves with our own local treasures — the watershed, the soil and what is growing on it, the habitat of our neighbour animals and humans. I manage to flag up connections in every Earth Send. Make the effort to connect. Open your senses and open your heart to your home turf. Come home to your body, to nature and to your own four walls.
Welcome to this fine Friday in melodious May. Welcome to our meditation for the well-being of all life on earth. Welcome to Earth Send.
Welcome to the Circle of Mindfulness
Santosha / contentment, with Rainbow Tribe Reiki — Fridays, all day
The Earth Send
June 2005 — now
39 days to our 19th anniversary. Wow. Nothing and noone can take away our love for Mother Earth.
19 years, more or less, legally less, is how long a baby takes to become an adult. Society starts to treat teens as almost-functioning adults even before they turn 19. And we have brought up this baby. We have a terrific reason to celebrate this milestone in our practitioner and meditator journey! Congratulations! Well done.
I am grateful to everyone who has participated periodically and in a poignant chapter of life, and I am grateful to our recent co-meditators and to the growing interest to give back to Earth. Because of you all, our Earth Send keeps getting better and better.
Let’s keep rocking our way to our anniversary.

A bucket list is a short list of must-dos and must-haves for this lifetime.
By short, I mean 1–12 highlights, feats or factors, without which you would feel that you missed what you came here to do or to experience.
Our time on earth is limited. So take the time you need to write your bucket list. And if you know right away what your list’s essential features are, all the better!
Strong Emotions About The Bucket List? Bingo!
At least three points on my bucket list are present to me at all times. I do not need to think or ponder too long. In fact, when I fall into a low mood, I get distraught about not having materialized them by now.
Your bucket list will likely bring strong feelings to the fore, too. If you passed away before you had the chance to experience what is on your bucket list, you would regret that you deprived yourself of that.
It is quite rare that we have a take-it-or-leave-it attitude, or are deferential about our bucket list, as in, “If it happens, good, if it doesn’t, alright, too.” If your bucket list reads like that, and plays up unrevealing wishes, you may not be in touch with your feelings.
Take a trip to a place you never visited before to oxygenate your perception and get your juices flowing.
No time and no money for a trip? Well, there is always time for new impressions, an undiscovered place in nature, a hill, a mountain, a beach, a forest, or an undiscovered neighbourhood… New places do not cost an arm and leg. Often you have access to them for free. Refresh yourself. Start paying attention to what you need, dream about and want more of. Treat your senses to impressions that make you come alive , at least wake you up a little, catch your curiosity, and bring you into the now , and you will be less tempted to seek “immoral, illegal or fattening” substitutes for feeling alive. Take that trip soon!
…
The bucket list features 3–6 priorities, ideally. One is good enough. (It is easier to focus on one big thing than on too many objectives at the same time.) 12 are fine. Cut it off after 12, for practical reasons. If you notice that two or three of your goals are about the same topic, consolidate and group them into one.
Action or vision maps or vision boards are clever alternatives to a bucket list. That is how your creativity tool #1 could look like, too. The one rule is that you use it and feel inspired to use it.
I deemed vision boards and action maps more popular, so I wrote about them profusely in the last months.
I myself found a bucket list most useful. Unlike my map and vision boards, where I recorded time-bound and prudent goals, my bucket list was heartfelt and fierce.
“Holy cow! Do I have to do that now?” (I uttered something less cute than “cow” after “holy”.)
Writing it out was fun, but when I absorbed what I had put on paper, something close to a samvega shock shook me.
Oh yeah.
Of course, I do have to do that now. Core desires that rise from the soul are here to stay. Life circumstances rarely mollify or silence them.
And my bucket list is going to revolutionize all my future maps and boards. I am positive that people who know me long and well enough would recognize my bucket list as something only I would write.
“Why do I go on and fill my life with little things when there are big things I must do and lots of dreams that really should come true before I am through?”
Burt Bacharach, Something Big
…
If you are new to creativity tool #1 — of any described shape — , start with your bucket list — before you put together an action map or a vision board.
You will move forward once you get real with yourself.
First Draft: Use Your Hands
“You know, we evolved in a three-dimensional world, and we evolved to interact with that world through our hands. I think there are a lot of reasons why working with our hands may be prosperous for our brains.”
Dr. Kelly Lambert,
behavioural neuroscientist, U of Richmond
Write your first bucket list or your first action map by hand. Craft your first vision board with your hands. Keep your first creativity tools, especially #1, non-digital.
Placement:
A bulletin-like declaration is a potent motivator. Place it where it can affect you in the long run.
In some settings, you might decide to keep your bucket list or vision board away from other people’s eyes and for your eyes only. Store it in a discreet spot, like a slip pocket, a zipper folder, a sun visor or a bag, so you can pull it out and look at it and make it disappear again.
Your portable version of creativity tool #1 bucket list suits your need for privacy (only you know that you have it with you), and it can be a conversation starter, too, if you choose to show it around.
#1 For the Session
A photo of your list, map or board.
Or an ID card sized print of it, perhaps in a protective silicone sleeve. 1–12 goals fit on it.
𖥸
#2
Your gratitude container is a larger vessel, a box of a generous cut or a notebook with plenty of pages and surface to write into.
Objects that serve as gratitude containers could be a shoe box, an Asian appreciation vase, a mason jar, a bag, a zipper folder, a thicker journal.
Placement:
It is good to keep your gratitude container in one spot. It reminds you to deposit your notes of gratitude and gratitude trinkets into it and to keep writing.
The best placement for it is by the bed.
When you wake up, it cues your mind to “Another day to be grateful for, wooohoooo!” and to scribble down the minutiae that you are grateful for.
When you wake up at night, instead of tossing and turning and worrying about not getting enough rest, you can write about gratitude, and hopefully fall back asleep again in a calmer state.
In the evening, you think about your day and what was good about it and what you’d love to repeat, and you let your words flow — into it.
If you share your bedroom with a partner, suggest that he (she) joins in the gratitude practice before bedtime. For many couples, this little ritual led to emotional intimacy that was enjoyable and fortuitous for their relationship. That could be your partner and you, too.
#2 For The Session
A soft cover journal is perfect. Keep it in your day bag or backpack, and wherever you find yourself, write and draw into it.
𖥸
#3
Your Gallery of Mudita is one spot for your team of advisors, mentors and role models, people who have achieved something that you hope to materialize, too. Hopefully, many of them are still alive and ready to share with you. They are human.
Placement:
A shelf, an album, a clear stadium bag, a clear box, a notebook are all good places to gather their names, photos or portraits.
#3 For The Session
Your portable Gallery of Mudita is a light-weight soft copy that fits into your palm.
For example,
- a photo.
Or
- a foldable (larger) print on paper or a natural fabric.
Bandanas and flags are cheerful and versatile tributes to mudita (joy about the well-being and good fortune of others) and to your team of factual “elders and teachers”. They lend themselves to featuring people you are grateful to and look up to, and as you use them, you recall how fortunate you are to have met people who have a positive influence on you and to learn and grow in the direction of your objectives.
A paper print with your Gallery of Mudita on it can become the inside, or the front cover, of your portable gratitude notebook.
Be creative with creativity tool #3.
Play with your materials and combine them in intuitive and inspiring ways.
Mikao Usui, Spiritual Ancestor To All Reiki Practitioners
Mikao Usui, the founder of reiki, is a candidate for everyone’s Gallery of Mudita. He brought us together in the practice of reiki, and his legacy and teachings are alive in us.
What Does Not Belong Into the Gallery Of Mudita
Environmental affirmations of what a person holds sacred strengthen the exhibitor, I can say that as a Feng Shui student, and I have experienced it enough, so that I am not too strict, if perhaps you want to feature never met and long gone wise men and women. For example, characters from scriptures who encourage you to be a better human being and rise above conditionings. Help yourself in every way you can.
Let me offer a rule of thumb here, though: Who can you call and ask for a consultation? Who can give you encouraging feedback in plain language? That is who belongs in your Gallery of Mudita.
Everyone and everything else — figures, life forms and objects who do not communicate in conventional ways, though they may be motivating you — can get another worthy place.
Motivators like
- figurines or depictions of deities
- pet photos
- shots of your children or babies
- reminders of your heroes in fiction
- whim-whams showing the universe, planets, starseed clans or extraterrestrials
- representations of spirit guides, angels and other friendly entities from subtler realms
- paintings, drawings or photos of totem animals
- sheddings from power animals
- gemstones, crystals, beach stones from moments you love to recall
- lucky bamboo, plant favourites, plant allies
are indeed mood boosters, pleasing to showcase and savour. You can bring photos of your mini oases to our sessions.
Keep them separate from your Gallery of Mudita.
Other Ambiental Supports
Anything that helps you meditate, relax and keep your mind alert and receptive aids and boosts your practice. Give these objects their own place.
Do not fuse them with your Gallery of Mudita.
For example
- meditation music, mantras, cymbals, bells, drums, singing bowls
- meditation cushion, straw mat, yoga mat
- aromatherapy lamp
- pure essential oils
- herb cuttings, petals, and edible, seasonal potpourris
- rose water
- orange blossom water
- tiger balm
- candles
- water fountains
- stretchable, soft clothes
- any other festive extras that enrich your meditation, deepen mindfulness, cue your mind to unwind, calm down and arrive in the here and now and beautify the experience
…
I mentioned before that I bring a jade or two to sessions, and like to hold one in my hands when I write the invitation — because the stone has a vibration that is similar to reiki. At least I feel harmonious and kindred wavelengths between reiki and jade. (I have not heard or read anything that confirms this connection. I know that jade can absorb and transmit infrared heat. Research could offer data later in time that there is something to what I have picked up.)
A lot of people like to use gemstones to ground and purify themselves before a meditation or their reiki session. It is not necessary or customary for reiki. But if you feel drawn to a gemstone, pay attention to how it makes you feel and let it be part of your session prep, if you find it beneficial.
Freedom From Clutter For Tranquility
A clutter free space sets the mood for meditation and introspection. We live with plenty of info, visual and sensory overload. Being in a space free of distractions and stuff is soothing to the nervous system and the mind.
When in doubt, put it away. Dust. Spray plant water into some corners.
Edit to evoke the feeling of a sanctuary. Decorate later — if you want a bit of that, too.
Spaciousness, freshness, and a clean slate. Look at nature: everything that our eyes take in as a large, smooth surface has a tidying and decompressing effect on the psyche: the cloudless blue sky, the night sky with the star and lunar light and its reduced colour palette, the surface of water in a windless hour or in the gentle breeze, large, open fields with soft curves in the landscape…
This is your clue that a clean and streamlined space without litter lets us breathe easier, grounds and comforts us and feels balmy. In other words, it is a superb ambiental support for meditation and reiki sends.

Reiki Practitioners
All our reiki practitioners are sending reiki to everyone present here and their tool kit.
We hold the vision of our circle in full health and joy — whether or not you are working on topics and have a tool kit.
For future Earth Sends, bring your tool kit to the sessions. It will amp up your experience and make you feel included, involved and inspired! Reiki will circulate through your tool kit and support where you are heading.
After we have let reiki circulate through our circle and our tool kits, we send reiki to all the names on our reiki request lists.

Healing Requests and Personal and Group Healing Lists
Do Your Part
If you have requested reiki for yourself, do your part to recover from what you want help for and to manifest your wish.
Ask for assistance and reiki and be ready to do your part: that what you can do to make a satisfying outcome likely.
There are situations when all you can do is receive. For example, you are in hospital or in bed, recovering from an injury or a recent op. Feel free to ask for reiki for your healing.
In most cases, though, when you ask for assistance for a desirable goal, you can do your part, so that it can become real.
Your attitude about showing up, acting on your behalf, committing and initiating is of great import.
Take responsibility for yourself. Take the next-best step.
Cooperate With Your Request To the Best of Your Ability
Of course, you can do more. Once you begin the manifestation process, you learn that there is more you can do than you originally thought. Few situations are so low maintenance that you will bring them to fruition by estranged detachment and neglect. Water, feed and protect your project.
Take an interest in your manifestation. Participate in your healing.
Be Fair To the Group
Let us know about your successes, when you have manifested what you have asked support for, and have good news to share.
Inform us, too, when you no longer need healing and assistance, or when you have changed your plan and are focusing on something else.
Healing Requests For Other People, Animals and Bioregions
You can request healing for other people, too, and for animals and regions in peril.
Indicate what type of healing you are requesting. Prayers, good thoughts and lightwork can be offered in almost all situations. Reiki needs consent and a “yes!” from the recipient.
Keep updating the group about your requests as relief becomes evident, symptoms lessen or updates and more good news become available.

Team Up
Now more than ever is an auspicious time to be a good neighbour and to get involved in local restorations of the ecology, in repairs to community spirit, in peacemaking and other activism that tugs at your heart. This is where you can meet people with solid values who are used to working in a team for a common goal and who make amazing peers and friends for life. Caring for a shared cause fosters camaraderie and a robust, remarkable and true rapport between people. Talk about a compatible life path! Mutual concerns and activism is where it is at. Maybe your future spouse is in one of the groups that you are going to contribute to.
Free / Low Cost Peer Support and Advocacy Networks
In all English speaking countries, there are free support groups, like 12 Step Programs, such as Adult Children of Alcoholics and Dysfunctional Families, Codependents Anonymous, AlAnon, Debtors Anonymous, Underearners Anonymous. Most holistic practitioners have a history or baggage with at least one of these patterns. So those are places to connect with.
I haven’t participated in the money-themed support groups, although I am a good candidate for them, too, but I have been to every other group that dwells on becoming functional in dysfunctional settings.
With my horizon of today, it is easy to pinpoint how I repeatedly ended up in professional and social scenes where addictions reigned supreme and in relationships with turbulent, addicted and self-destructive partners. That sounds like the mainstream experience, probably, and pretty relatable. Well, it was a huge mismatch to who I was (even then), and it shattered years of my life. Even the healing community can silence people who clean up the mess and are devastated by their experiences. That is why networks for members who are firm about sanity and letting go of harmful attractions exist:
to pick you up with solution orientation, compassion and understanding.
Well, it has been years since I have been involved with an addict, and for at least a decade, I have been working for bosses who set a tone of sobriety. Both are signs of progress and freedom from old patterns. I thank the anonymous recovery groups for the empowerment to redirect my focus on whom I can change: me. Both my upbringing and my education missed to communicate that message; so in my adult years and after some hard lessons, I had to re-learn and shift behaviour and concepts.
I am glad that I did! Noticing people who are proactive about choosing better for themselves has an impact on you that no book, podcast, show or spiel can give you.
…
All over the world, there are peer groups and health championing networks where you can learn and support, lessen suffering and boost the well-being of your buddies, campaign for research and less stigma and improve the lives of countless people coming after you.
Animal rescue centres regularly invite volunteers to join or foster abandoned pets.
Affordable To Sliding Scale And Absolutely Worthwhile
There are also exciting networks like creativity and writing groups, sport, book, craft and plant clubs. Some cost a bit (events around music, training and fancier recreation), but may be in your budget, if you ask and look for it.
Local permaculture meet-ups, foraging, mushroom picking and native plant identification walks, food preservation and cooking classes, native seed exchanges and plant swaps have become a hit. These groups are full of knowledgeable, interesting and admirable people worth knowing.
It doesn’t have to cut deep and be heavy to start the best chapter of your life and to transform.
After years of social distancing, we had insights about what kinds of friends we want more of and that isolating is not a life-style that leads to good outcomes.
Learn About Your Village, Town Or City
Learn about local geography and history, and our era’s movements that you want to be part of.

We support all efforts to become wiser and to live better and more connected.

Personal Intention For this Session
Some useful questions to ask yourself are
What do I hope for in this session?
What energies do I want to anchor in the place I dwell in?
So you can come up with an intention that you can put yourself behind to benefit the web of life and yourself, too.
…
Intentions that can work for many participants are:
“I welcome all the resources I need. And I respect, and I am generous with, my abundance.”
“May my participation serve the enlightenment of countless beings.”
“By being with this Circle, I discover what I am compatible with.”
“By being with this Circle, I connect with what I resonate with.”
“By being with this Circle, I draw to me what is for my higher good.”
“For the highest good of all. For my highest good, too.”
…
By formulating an intention for your meditation, you train your mind to make the best of your time. You also personalize and bring yourself into an experience that could feel vast and barely affecting or relating to you, as it centres you in your own life that is a tiny, but active piece in the web of the living world.
Our life is where our power, our agency and our life force is. So we bring our awareness to the life that we know and live.

Land and Watershed Acknowledgement
Ancestors and Heirs To the Land
As we move into our reiki session, we connect with the land under our feet. We connect with the respect its first people gave it — by observing its peculiar traits, the water cycle and the interaction between sky and earth — , and with the celebratory joy at harvest festivals and other gatherings where good news were shared. Yes, the original residents tended the land like it was a treasure, because it was their treasure, their provider of nourishment, appreciation, memories, encounters, spiritual revelations, spiritual connection, and get-togethers with other two-leggeds. They identified and propagated edible and medicinal plants, built up the soil, and made it more fertile, useful and enjoyable for all who walked on it. We acknowledge the link between the land and human beings and all who grew and dwelled here before us.
We thank the opportunity to shape our corner with our own gifts and to increase its hardiness, vitality, productivity and felicity. We are aware of the good fortune that we have been given. We are grateful to the people who poured their love into the land and respected what they learned from being in relationship with it.
We think of our ancestral lands and the known, to us, regions where our genes came from. Can we support any of these regions today? Can we support the people in these countries who work to rejuvenate the rivers, clean up the drinking water, and make the land fertile and prosperous?
Let a few thoughts come to you. Send your blessings to all the places where your ancestors lived and grew food.
Let us connect with the local watershed, the source of life, refreshment and purification. Thank you, water. Please forgive us, water. We love you, water.

Reiki Precepts and Reiki Practice
On this day, we take refuge in the Earth Send (sangha), in the five precepts of reiki (dharma) that tell us about good conduct, self-correction, good will, amity and readiness to take in the good right here, right now, and in the wisdom keepers we open our hearts and minds to (buddha).
𖥸
The five reiki precepts are
Just for today
I will not worry
I will not anger
I will work honestly
I will honour my teachers and elders
I will be grateful for all the blessings I enjoy
…
As we take in the words, we notice how closely we hit the mark, and we adjust. The precepts have been teaching us how to live a fulfilling, unencumbered and charmed life. We notice the people who live by these precepts, and we are grateful for them.
Resistance, Uh Oh! Being Human
Becoming honest in the practice is key. Sometimes we struggle with one precept or another. We are human. The precepts would not be necessary, if those conditions were permanent.
…
On Fatigue
“If you get tired, learn to rest, not to quit.”

Become aware of your energy surplus, drop and happy medium. Arrange your day by productivity, vital energy and fortitude. Leave enough time to fill your cup.
Seek counsel from people whose fruits you want and who want to assist you. Observe their attitudes in critical moments, their staying power, their adaptability, their priorities, their wisdom. Wonder what it took to become who they have become.
